The “Transparent Man” stands for an image of humanity in the modern age, defined by science, rationality and transparency. The ensuing possibilities for generating, exchanging, collecting and using information – better, faster and in greater quantities – prompt the question of when and where we feel such illumination to be something positive but also negative. As a society, we find ourselves in a state alternating between euphoria, fear, power, impotence and dependence, just to mention a few. The uneasiness over these mechanisms – which are difficult to fully grasp on account of their virtuality and just as difficult to control – is given tangible expression in the film.
